Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
