A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a group of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The track showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a digital service from mid-December.
