Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."

Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, ranking him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
