LBJ's Record-Setting Scoring Run Comes to a Close, However Lakers Pull Off Victory Against Raptors.

LeBron James was aware his historic run of putting up 10+ points was at risk. At the decisive instant, though, he wasn't bothered.

The correct basketball play involved passing the rock – and he executed. Following that play, the legendary streak came to an end.

James's unprecedented streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season double-digit scoring performances concluded during a recent game, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader had only a mere eight points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 triumph versus Toronto. He delivered the decisive pass, setting up teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a triple at the buzzer.

“Nothing,” James stated after being questioned about the streak ending. “We won.”

A Selfless Choice Delivers the Win

James could have attempted to win the contest – and extended the streak – on the final possession, instead, he decided to dish the ball to Rui stationed in the corner. Rui connected, prompting James celebrated immediately.

“Just playing basketball correctly. Always make the right play,” James remarked. “That’s just been my philosophy. That’s how I was instructed to play. That's what I've done my whole career.”

He is acutely aware of how many points he has at all times,” said the team's head coach the coach. He made the play just as he has throughout his career.”

The Run's End Game

LeBron checked back into the floor one last time at under five and a half minutes to go, the win along with the historic run on the line. His tally was a mere six points from 3 for 15 from the field by that point.

He managed a basket with under two minutes remaining to knot the score then missed a 14-footer with 1:01 left that might have gotten him into double figures.

He avoided taking one more attempt – even though he had a chance. Austin Reaves gave James the ball with a few seconds left, but James chose to dish it off instead of shooting.

The spirits of the game, if you approach it correctly, they often repay you,” Redick added.

The History of a Staggering Record

This incredible run began back in January 2007. It was, by far the most extended double-digit streak in professional basketball: Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 straight double-digit scoring games, Kareem recorded 787 such games, and The Mailman was fourth on the list of 575 games.

“He’s such a team-oriented player,” noted Lakers center Jake LaRavia.

He focuses on playing hoops. He could have shot but due to who he is on the court and his character as a person, he executed the team play, found Rui and claimed the game.”

Getting to ten points was usually a formality well before the final period. Over the course of the record, he had attained ten points by the start of the fourth 1,266 times prior to Thursday.

But two such games below ten points after three periods took place recently: He recorded nine points going into the fourth versus the Mavericks on 28 November, followed by six before the fourth quarter against Phoenix on Monday night.

LeBron was able to extend the streak against the Suns. The very next outing, it finished – yet he was celebrating regardless.

I only ever make the right play. That is instinctive, win, lose or draw,” James declared. When you make the unselfish play, the game gods are always returning the favor.”
