The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
